Well these two Heavyweights have been going back and forth for awhile now. Not so much with their words, but with their actions inside the Octagon. This fight was announced at the UFC 160 post fight press conference. To be honest, who isn't excited about this? Cain has completely obliterated everyone the UFC put in front of him and JDS has done much of the same, and most recently knocked out an accomplished K-1 striker in Mark Hunt. But then, if you take a look at the two times these fighters have met, you understand why a third fight is happening so soon.
In their first meeting, Cain Velasquez was the reigning champion, but it didn't help him here. Dos Santos caught Velasquez early and finished him on the ground stealing the title away in the first round. Meeting number two could not have been any further away from that reality. Velasquez was on JDS from bell to bell, hitting him with big shots standing and dragging him to the ground at will. Cain went on to take a completely dominant five round decision to take back the belt.
Now, these two fighters will meet again to finish off one of the best trilogies in recent Heavyweight history. I don't think anyone can say for sure what they expect going into this fight, but I can tell you that I fully expect these fighters to show up in exceptional shape, and ready to go to war to establish themselves as the undisputed champion of the UFC Heavyweight division.
